According to unconfirmed information, the world’s largest e-commerce and cloud computing company Amazon plans to start accepting payments in bitcoins by the end of 2021, and in 2022 intends to issue its own token.
According to an insider in Amazon, the company’s plans concern not only payment solutions, but the full-scale integration of cryptocurrencies into Amazon’s business processes in the future, City AM reports.
“It begins with Bitcoin – this is the key first stage of this crypto project, and the directive is coming from the very top… Jeff Bezos himself.”
The insider of City AM also said that the Amazon board of directors expects to start accepting payments in other cryptocurrencies if the bitcoin project is successful.
“Ethereum, Cardano and Bitcoin Cash will be next in line before they bring about eight of the most popular cryptocurrencies online. It won’t take long because the plans are already there, and they have been working on them since 2019.”
According to her, the first stage of the project is almost ready for launch. The next stage after the start of accepting payments in cryptocurrencies is supposed to be the issue of Amazon’s own token. This may happen one year after the launch of accepting payments in bitcoins.
“This then becomes a multi-level infrastructure where you can pay for goods and services or earn tokens in a loyalty scheme.”
Amazon recently posted a job posting for a blockchain specialist job. The description clarifies that a person with experience in blockchain, distributed ledger, central bank digital currencies, and cryptocurrency is required.
The message about the possible arrival of Amazon provoked a sharp jump in the bitcoin rate, which added more than 25% in a day and returned to the $40,000 mark.
